Abstract

As a result of great increases in CO emissions in the last few decades, many papers have examined the relationship between renewable energy and CO emissions in the energy economics literature, because as a clean energy source, renewable energy can reduce CO emissions and solve environmental problems stemming from increases in CO emissions. When one analyses these papers, he/she will observe that they employ fixed parameter estimation methods, and time-varying effects of non-renewable and renewable energy consumption/production on greenhouse gas emissions are ignored. In order to fulfil this gap in the literature, this paper examines the effects of non-renewable and renewable energy on CO emissions in Turkey over the period 1970-2013 by employing fixed parameter and time-varying parameter estimation methods. Estimation methods reveal that CO emissions are positively related to non-renewable energy and renewable energy in Turkey. Since policy makers expect renewable energy to decrease CO emissions, this paper argues that renewable energy is not able to satisfy the expectations of policy makers though fewer CO emissions arise through production of electricity using renewable sources. In conclusion, the paper argues that policy makers should implement long-term energy policies in Turkey.

由于过去几十年间二氧化碳排放量大幅增加,在能源经济学文献中,许多论文都研究了可再生能源与二氧化碳排放之间的关系,因为作为一种清洁能源,可再生能源能够减少二氧化碳排放,并解决因二氧化碳排放增加而产生的环境问题。当人们分析这些论文时,会发现它们采用的是固定参数估计方法,而忽略了不可再生能源和可再生能源消费/生产对温室气体排放的时变影响。为了填补文献中的这一空白,本文采用固定参数和时变参数估计方法,研究了1970年至2013年期间不可再生能源和可再生能源对土耳其二氧化碳排放的影响。估计方法表明,在土耳其,二氧化碳排放与不可再生能源和可再生能源呈正相关。由于政策制定者期望可再生能源能减少二氧化碳排放,本文认为,尽管使用可再生能源发电产生的二氧化碳排放量较少,但可再生能源仍无法满足政策制定者的期望。总之,本文认为土耳其的政策制定者应实施长期能源政策。
