Zamzam water is naturally alkaline and rich in a variety of minerals which may represent a powerful tool for cancer therapy. In this research, the cytotoxic effects of Zamzam water were investigated in human lung cancer (A549) cell line and compared with human skin fibroblasts (HSF).
Two different preparations of Zamzam water were used: Z1, with pH adjusted to 7.2 and Z2, with no pH adjustment. The effects of both treatments on the morphology of the A549 and HSF cell lines were investigated. The cell viability of HSF and A549 cells was identified by the MTT assay and trypan blue exclusion. Detection of apoptotic cells and cell cycle analyses were determined using flow cytometry. Moreover, reactive oxygen species (ROS) were measured for both cell lines.
Both Zamzam water treatments, Z1 and Z2 showed reductions in the cell viability of A549 cells. Cell death occurred via necrosis among cells treated with Z2. Cell cycle arrest occurred in the G0/G1 phases for cells treated with Z2. Cellular and mitochondrial ROS productions were not affected by either treatment.
Our findings indicate that Zamzam water might have potential therapeutic efficacy for lung cancer.
渗渗泉水天然呈碱性,富含多种矿物质,可能是癌症治疗的有力工具。在本研究中,研究了渗渗泉水对人肺癌(A549)细胞系的细胞毒性作用,并与人类皮肤成纤维细胞(HSF)进行比较。
使用了两种不同的渗渗泉水制剂:Z1,pH值调至7.2;Z2,未进行pH值调节。研究了两种处理对A549和HSF细胞系形态的影响。通过MTT法和台盼蓝排斥法鉴定HSF和A549细胞的细胞活力。使用流式细胞术检测凋亡细胞并进行细胞周期分析。此外,还测量了两种细胞系的活性氧(ROS)。
Z1和Z2两种渗渗泉水处理均使A549细胞的细胞活力降低。用Z2处理的细胞中,细胞死亡通过坏死发生。用Z2处理的细胞在G0/G1期发生细胞周期阻滞。两种处理均未影响细胞和线粒体ROS的产生。
我们的研究结果表明,渗渗泉水可能对肺癌具有潜在的治疗效果。
