We present the case of a fifty-two-year-old man who underwent hip arthroscopy for cam-type femoroacetabular impingement and had an anterior hip dislocation three weeks postoperatively. The patient did not have any of the previously identified risk factors for instability after hip arthroscopy. He underwent revision involving capsular repair and removal of loose bodies but progressed to needing total hip arthroplasty within two years.
This case illustrates that even patients without the previously reported risk factors for hip instability are at risk of dislocation after hip arthroscopy and this can lead to rapid joint degeneration necessitating arthroplasty.
