The role of health information in the health delivery services of a nation is stressed with examples from the advanced nations. Factors responsible for the poor state of health information systems in the Third World and the effects on health delivery services are identified. probable factors that may Lead to the development of health information systems in the Third World in the future are posited. Recommendations for the establishment of health information systems based on funding, staffing, functions and networking are made.
