Abstract

BACKGROUND/AIM: High-grade gliomas (HGG) consist of anaplastic oligoastrocytomas, anaplastic oligodendrogliomas, anaplastic astrocytomas and glioblastoma multiforme. The present study aimed to evaluate TNF-α -308 G>A polymorphism in a Turkish population.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

This was a prospective case-control study that included 45 patients with HGG and 49 healthy individuals. All patients were operated for intracranial tumors and the pathology results consist of high grade (Grade3 and 4) glial tumors.

RESULTS

No significant differences were found between the HGG and control groups in terms of the median age (p=0.898). There were no significant differences with regard to gender (p=0.577). The TNF genotype frequency comparison between patients and controls was not statistically significant (p=0.598).

CONCLUSION

TNF genotype frequency comparison between the patients and controls was not statistically significant in the Turkish population tested. However, further studies are needed to evaluate the genotype and phenotype correlations in large cohorts of various ethnicities.

背景/目的:高级别胶质瘤(HGG)包括间变性少突星形细胞瘤、间变性少突胶质细胞瘤、间变性星形细胞瘤和多形性胶质母细胞瘤。本研究旨在评估土耳其人群中肿瘤坏死因子-α(TNF-α)-308 G>A多态性。

患者与方法

这是一项前瞻性病例对照研究,纳入了45例高级别胶质瘤患者和49名健康个体。所有患者均接受了颅内肿瘤手术,病理结果为高级别(3级和4级)胶质瘤。

结果

高级别胶质瘤组与对照组在中位年龄方面无显著差异(p=0.898)。在性别方面也无显著差异(p=0.577)。患者与对照组之间的TNF基因型频率比较无统计学意义(p=0.598)。

结论

在受试的土耳其人群中,患者与对照组之间的TNF基因型频率比较无统计学意义。然而,需要进一步研究以评估不同种族大样本队列中的基因型与表型相关性。
