Abstract

PURPOSE

The present study aims to evaluate the effect of preoperative education on the level of anxiety provided to patients scheduled for thyroidectomy using education brochures on the level of anxiety.

DESIGN

The study design was quasi-experimental.

METHODS

The study data were collected using the Patient Information Form and the Turkish version of the Anxiety Specific to Surgery Questionnaire (ASSQ). Study group patients were informed by brochure before 24 hours. Control group patients were informed verbally during routine preoperative preparation or 1 day before surgery. Test and control group patients were resubjected to the ASSQ before being transported from their unit beds to the operating room.

FINDINGS

There was no significant difference in the mean scores of the pretest and final test ASSQ scores for the test and control groups (P > .05).

CONCLUSIONS

Our study results showed that education provided to the patients scheduled for thyroid surgery using written materials did not affect anxiety.

目的

本研究旨在评估术前教育对计划接受甲状腺切除术患者焦虑水平的影响,采用教育手册对焦虑水平进行评估。

设计

本研究设计为准实验性研究。

方法

使用患者信息表和土耳其语版手术特异性焦虑问卷(ASSQ)收集研究数据。研究组患者在24小时前通过手册获得信息。对照组患者在常规术前准备期间或手术前1天通过口头方式获得信息。试验组和对照组患者在从病房病床转运至手术室前再次接受ASSQ测试。

结果

试验组和对照组的ASSQ预测试和最终测试平均得分无显著差异(P>.05)。

结论

我们的研究结果表明,使用书面材料对计划接受甲状腺手术的患者进行教育不会影响焦虑水平。
