Single injection of ethanol at a dose of 2 and 4 g/kg has been shown to increase blood-brain barrier penetration for peripherally administered 14C-tyrosine and 14C-DOPA. No changes in blood-brain barrier penetration for horseradish peroxidase has been found. Acute effect of ethanol on blood-brain barrier systems of specific and nonspecific transport is discussed.
