[Status and prospects of gerontology and geriatricsin the regions of Russia (on the example of Sverdlovsk region).].

The article describes the situation with the development of gerontology in the regions of the Russian Federation on the example of Sverdlovsk region. The positive and negative aspects of the possibilities of scientific research in the field of gerontology, training of geriatric doctors in the Ural medical University and the state of geriatric service of the region are presented. A number of changes are proposed in the existing provisions on the formation and development of gerontology science and practice, while preserving decades of regional traditions.
