Abstract

Two new 11,20-epoxybriaranes, fragilides P () and Q (), as well as two known analogues, robustolide F () and juncin Z (), were obtained from the gorgonian coral . The structures, including the absolute configurations of briaranes and , were elucidated by using spectroscopic methods and comparing the spectroscopic and rotation data with those of known related analogues. Briarane decreased the generation of superoxide anions by human neutrophils. The propionate group in is rarely found.
