Abstract

PURPOSE

To determine the association of serum insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and vitamin D levels with cognition status in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

METHODS

A total of 173 patients with T2DM were recruited and divided into mild cognitive impairment (MCI) group (n = 94) and normal cognition (NC) group (n = 79). Levels of IGF-1 and 25(OH)D were measured and compared, and the correlations among IGF-1, 25(OH)D, and cognitive function were analyzed.

RESULTS

Insulin-like growth factor 1 and 25(OH)D levels significantly decreased in MCI group than those in the NC group (both < .001). Multiple stepwise regression analysis revealed that IGF-1 (β = .146, < .001) and 25(OH)D (β = .199, < .001) independently predicted Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores. Partial least square regression showed that contributions of both 25(OH)D ( < .001) and IGF-1 ( < .001) to MoCA scores were significant, while no cross-effect was observed between them ( = .714).

CONCLUSIONS

Low serum IGF-1 and 25(OH)D levels may separately predict poor cognitive performance in patients with diabetes.

选取 173 例 T2DM 患者,分为轻度认知障碍(MCI)组(n=94)和正常认知(NC)组(n=79)。检测 IGF-1 和 25(OH)D 水平并进行比较,分析 IGF-1、25(OH)D 与认知功能的相关性。

结果

MCI 组 IGF-1 和 25(OH)D 水平均明显低于 NC 组(均 <.001)。多元逐步回归分析显示,IGF-1(β=.146, <.001)和 25(OH)D(β=.199, <.001)独立预测蒙特利尔认知评估(MoCA)评分。偏最小二乘回归显示,25(OH)D( <.001)和 IGF-1( <.001)对 MoCA 评分的贡献均有统计学意义,两者之间无交叉效应( =.714)。

结论

血清 IGF-1 和 25(OH)D 水平降低可能分别预测糖尿病患者认知功能不良。
