Surgical team is in command of the operating room (OR) and takes decisions regarding various patient care procedures. Educational programs directed to them, should be creative, provocative and tailored to their specific needs and the expected outcomes.
This study aims to design and conduct an educational program of patient safety and infection control for the OR team based on the WHO surgical safety checklist and to assess their post-intervention knowledge and practices.
This interventional study was conducted at the ORs of Port-said general hospital. It passed through three stages; baseline assessment of knowledge and practice regarding patient safety and infection control among OR team (surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses), intervention stage in which an educational program based on the WHO surgical safety checklist with modifications and additions of more infection control items was conducted, then re-assessment of their post-intervention knowledge and practices.
All the studied participants showed improvement in both knowledge and practices of patient safety and infection control after the educational program based on the WHO surgical safety checklist with modifications and additions of more infection control items and including not only practices but also knowledge as well, than before.
The modification of the WHO surgical safety checklist to fit local knowledge and practices created a comprehensive tool that led to an improvement in both knowledge and practices of patient safety and infection control among the OR team.

本干预性研究在塞得港总医院的手术室进行。研究分为三个阶段;对手术室团队(外科医生、麻醉师和护士)进行患者安全与感染控制知识和实践的基线评估,干预阶段开展一项基于世界卫生组织手术安全核对表并进行了修改且增加了更多感染控制项目的教育项目,然后重新评估他们干预后的知识和实践情况。
在基于世界卫生组织手术安全核对表并进行了修改且增加了更多感染控制项目、不仅包括实践还包括知识的教育项目之后,所有研究参与者在患者安全与感染控制的知识和实践方面均有改善。
对世界卫生组织手术安全核对表进行修改以适应当地知识和实践,创造了一个全面的工具,导致手术室团队在患者安全与感染控制的知识和实践方面均有改善。
