Abstract

BACKGROUND

The studies on mosquito attractants had been develop intensively in the recent years. However, the study on fruit peel extract as mosquito attractant was scarce, even though various fruits had demonstrated the ability to attract different types of mosquito species.

OBJECTIVE

This study aims to determine the potential of (papaya) and (pineapple) peel extracts to attract and .

METHODS

The mosquitoes response to the fruit peel extracts were conducted in the no-choice and choice assay using modified olfactometer. The Preference Index (PI) in each assay was calculated and arcsine transformed before conducting independent -test to determine the significant different between the mean arcsine transformed PI and the tested hypothesis mean PI.

RESULT

No choice assay indicate both species have significant attraction to the papaya and pineapple peel extracts ( < 0.05). In choice assay, is revealed to equally attracted to the papaya and pineapple peel extracts ( > 0.05) while is significantly attracted to the papaya peel extract ( < 0.05).

CONCLUSION

The study had identified that both fruit peel extracts able to attract mosquitoes with is equally attracted to papaya and pineapple peel extracts while is more attracted to the papaya peel extract than the pineapple peel extract.

背景

近年来,对蚊虫引诱剂的研究一直在深入开展。然而,尽管各种水果已显示出吸引不同种类蚊虫的能力,但关于果皮提取物作为蚊虫引诱剂的研究却很少。

目的

本研究旨在确定番木瓜和菠萝果皮提取物对致倦库蚊和白纹伊蚊的引诱潜力。

方法

使用改良嗅觉仪,在无选择和有选择试验中观察致倦库蚊和白纹伊蚊对果皮提取物的反应。计算每次试验中的偏好指数(PI),并在进行独立t检验之前对其进行反正弦转换,以确定反正弦转换后的平均PI与测试假设平均PI之间的显著差异。

结果

无选择试验表明,两种蚊虫对番木瓜和菠萝果皮提取物均有显著吸引力(P<0.05)。在有选择试验中,致倦库蚊对番木瓜和菠萝果皮提取物的吸引力相同(P>0.05),而白纹伊蚊对番木瓜果皮提取物有显著吸引力(P<0.05)。

结论

该研究已确定,两种果皮提取物均能吸引蚊虫,其中致倦库蚊对番木瓜和菠萝果皮提取物的吸引力相同,而白纹伊蚊对番木瓜果皮提取物的吸引力比对菠萝果皮提取物的吸引力更大。
