Abstract

Planar cell polarity and anisotropic cell behavior play critical roles in large-scale epithelial morphogenesis, homeostasis, wound repair, and regeneration. Cell-Cell communication and mechano-transduction in the second to minute scale mediated by E-cadherin complexes play a central role in the coordination and self-organization of cellular activities, such as junction dynamics, cell shape changes, and cell rearrangement. Here we review the current understanding in the interplay of cell polarity and cell dynamics during body axis elongation and dorsal closure in embryos with a focus on E-cadherin dynamics in linking cell and tissue polarization and tissue-scale shape changes.

平面细胞极性和各向异性细胞行为在大规模上皮形态发生、体内平衡、伤口修复和再生中起着关键作用。由E-钙粘蛋白复合物介导的秒到分钟尺度的细胞间通讯和机械转导在细胞活动的协调和自组织中起着核心作用,如连接动态、细胞形状变化和细胞重排。在这里,我们综述了目前对胚胎体轴延长和背侧闭合过程中细胞极性与细胞动态相互作用的理解,重点关注E-钙粘蛋白动态在连接细胞和组织极化以及组织尺度形状变化方面的作用。
