Psychotherapy with obese patients requires management of the therapist's feelings about obesity. These feelings are multiply determined. Fostering an awareness of one's attitudes towards obesity, reviewing countertransference as a source of information about the patient, and using countertransference to formulate interventions may improve the therapeutic outcome with the obese patient.
