Proof is now at hand that improved cementing techniques lead to marked improvement in longevity of femoral component fixation. The loosening rate at 6 years has been reduced from 20 per cent with the old techniques to less than 2 per cent. In addition, the new advances of pressurization, porosity reduction, and precoating should further enhance longevity.
