Changes were observed in the cerebrospinal fluid in SSPE cases during administration of beta-interferon 1 million units in 3.3 ml of normal saline intrathecally every second day for one month. During and after the treatment the cell count rose to a mean value of 277/mm3, with prevalence of monocytes initially and then lymphocytes. The total protein level increased by a mean threefold value, with a particular increase in the gamma-globulin and IgG fractions. In control investigations 3-10 months after completion of treatment the cell count became normal and the total protein level was slightly above the normal one, while the electrophoretically demonstrated changes regressed. The changes in the cerebrospinal fluid during intrathecal administration of beta-interferon are due probably to a non-specific irritative action of the drug on the reticulo-histiocytic system of the leptomeninx and the effect of interferon on the immune system.
在亚急性硬化性全脑炎(SSPE)病例中,观察到每隔一天鞘内注射3.3毫升生理盐水溶解的100万单位β-干扰素,持续一个月期间脑脊液的变化。治疗期间及治疗后,细胞计数升至平均277/mm³,最初以单核细胞为主,随后淋巴细胞增多。总蛋白水平平均增加三倍,γ-球蛋白和IgG组分尤其增加。在治疗结束后3至10个月的对照研究中,细胞计数恢复正常,总蛋白水平略高于正常,而电泳显示的变化有所消退。鞘内注射β-干扰素期间脑脊液的变化可能是由于药物对软脑膜网状组织细胞系统的非特异性刺激作用以及干扰素对免疫系统的影响。
