Abstract

Saffron () is a natural compound and its constituents such as crocin, crocetin, and safranal have many pharmacological properties such as anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antigenotoxic, anti-depressant, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, and neuroprotective. The nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway plays an important role against inflammation, oxidative stress, and carcinogenesis. In the regulation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway, kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (keap1) is the most studied pathway. In this review, we gathered various studies and describe the pharmacological effects of saffron and its constituents with their related mechanisms of action, particularly the Nrf2 signaling pathway. In this review, we used search engines or electronic databases including Scopus, Web of Science, and Pubmed, without time limitation. The search keywords contained saffron, "", crocetin, crocin, safranal, picrocrocin, "nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2", and Nrf2. Saffron and its constituents could have protective properties through various mechanisms particularly the Nrf2/HO-1/Keap1 signaling pathway in different tissues such as the liver, heart, brain, pancreas, lung, joints, colon, etc. The vast majority of studies discussed in this review indicate that saffron and its constituents could induce the Nrf2 signaling pathway leading to its anti-oxidant and therapeutic effects.

藏红花是一种天然化合物,其成分如藏红花素、藏红花酸和藏红花醛具有多种药理特性,如抗氧化、抗炎、抗肿瘤、抗基因毒性、抗抑郁、肝脏保护、心脏保护和神经保护等。核因子红细胞2相关因子2(Nrf2)信号通路在对抗炎症、氧化应激和致癌作用中发挥着重要作用。在Nrf2信号通路的调节中,kelch样ECH相关蛋白1(keap1)是研究最多的途径。在本综述中,我们收集了各种研究,并描述了藏红花及其成分的药理作用及其相关作用机制,特别是Nrf2信号通路。在本综述中,我们使用了搜索引擎或电子数据库,包括Scopus、科学网和PubMed,没有时间限制。搜索关键词包括藏红花、、藏红花酸、藏红花素、藏红花醛、苦藏花素、“核因子红细胞2相关因子2”和Nrf2。藏红花及其成分可通过多种机制,特别是Nrf2/HO-1/Keap1信号通路,在肝脏、心脏、大脑、胰腺、肺、关节、结肠等不同组织中具有保护特性。本综述中讨论的绝大多数研究表明,藏红花及其成分可诱导Nrf2信号通路,从而产生抗氧化和治疗作用。
