A man is the sum of all the moments of his life, and his attitudes are the product of repeated experience. A physician's attitude toward alcoholics is a product of all of his alcohol-related experiences, including family and societal feelings assimilated in childhood and lessons, impressions, and experiences acquired during medical training and practice.
