In recent years, the incidence of depression among adolescents has been increasing yearly, and the severe damage of depression on adolescents' physical and mental health development has caused extensive concern worldwide. Previous research on adults has confirmed that meaning in life is a crucial buffer factor for depression, and developing meaning in life is an essential task in adolescence. Moreover, prior researchers also pointed out that frequent cognitive failures can induce negative emotions in individuals, whereas mindfulness can regulate individuals' depression levels. However, few studies have investigated the impact of meaning in life on depression in adolescents and the underlying psychological mechanisms. Accordingly, based on the theoretical framework of the Cognitive Vulnerability-Stress Theory of Depression, this study aimed to explore the relationship between meaning in life and depression in junior high school students, as well as the mediating effect of cognitive failures and the moderating effect of mindfulness. We collected data from 948 adolescents aged 11 to 17 in two junior high schools in Henan Province, China, and tested the theoretical model through the PROCESS macro for SPSS. The results showed that: (1) meaning in life had a significant negative predictive effect on depression ( = -0.24, < 0.001); (2) cognitive failures partially mediated the relationship between meaning in life and depression ( = 0.31, < 0.001); (3) the relationship between cognitive failures and depression was moderated by mindfulness ( = -0.05, < 0.05). This study implied that we could start by cultivating adolescents' meaning in life and improving their level of mindfulness to prevent and intervene in adolescent depression.
近年来,青少年抑郁的发病率逐年上升,抑郁对青少年身心健康发展的严重危害引起了全世界的广泛关注。以往对成年人的研究已经证实,生活意义感是抑郁的一个重要缓冲因素,培养生活意义感是青少年时期的一项重要任务。此外,先前的研究人员还指出,频繁的认知失败会引起个体的负面情绪,而正念可以调节个体的抑郁水平。然而,很少有研究调查生活意义感对青少年抑郁的影响及其潜在的心理机制。因此,本研究基于抑郁的认知易损性-应激理论的理论框架,旨在探讨初中生生活意义感与抑郁之间的关系,以及认知失败的中介作用和正念的调节作用。我们从中国河南省的两所初中收集了 948 名 11 至 17 岁青少年的数据,并通过 SPSS 的 PROCESS 宏检验了理论模型。结果表明:(1)生活意义感对抑郁有显著的负向预测作用( = -0.24, < 0.001);(2)认知失败部分中介了生活意义感与抑郁之间的关系( = 0.31, < 0.001);(3)认知失败与抑郁的关系受到正念的调节( = -0.05, < 0.05)。本研究表明,我们可以从培养青少年的生活意义感和提高他们的正念水平入手,预防和干预青少年抑郁。
