Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the common lethal disease and the most common cancers worldwide and in Iran. North of Iran is known as a common area of gastric cancer and a high-risk zone in Iran. Apelin is a biomolecule that plays roles in various types of cancers. This study was designed to investigate the serum apelin-12 levels in patients with gastric cancer as a predictive marker and affordable noninvasive alternative.
In this case-control study, the case group included 42 patients with gastric cancer who were diagnosed by endoscopy and pathological findings. The participants in the case group were compared with the control group including 43 healthy individuals with no history of gastric cancer in their first-degree relatives and visiting the lab for routine tests. Apelin-12 serum level was assessed using ELISA kit. Data were analyzed in SPSS V16.0 applying Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney U test, and t-test.
Serum apelin-12 in patients with gastric cancer was found to be statistically lower than that in healthy individuals (p< 0.05). There were no significant differences between clinicopathological characteristics and apelin-12 expression. The median survival time in experimental and control groups was 16.0 months.
In the current study, serum levels of apelin were significantly different between cases and controls.
胃癌（GC）是一种常见的致命疾病，也是全球和伊朗最常见的癌症之一。伊朗北部是胃癌的常见地区，也是伊朗的高风险区域。Apelin 是一种在多种类型癌症中发挥作用的生物分子。本研究旨在探讨胃癌患者血清 Apelin-12 水平作为预测标志物和负担得起的非侵入性替代方法。
在这项病例对照研究中，病例组包括 42 名经内镜和病理检查确诊为胃癌的患者。将病例组与对照组进行比较，对照组包括 43 名无胃癌家族史且因常规检查而就诊于实验室的健康个体。使用 ELISA 试剂盒评估血清 Apelin-12 水平。数据采用 SPSS V16.0 进行分析，应用 Fisher 确切检验、Mann-Whitney U 检验和 t 检验。
胃癌患者的血清 Apelin-12 水平明显低于健康个体（p<0.05）。Apelin-12 表达与临床病理特征之间无显著差异。实验组和对照组的中位生存时间分别为 16.0 个月。
在本研究中，病例组和对照组之间的血清 Apelin 水平存在显著差异。
