Abstract

The rationale of study was to find the magnitude of amblyopia with reference to type of squint among the strabismus patients visiting Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar, Pakistan. After ethical approval, a cross sectional study was carried out in the Department of Ophthalmology, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, Pakistan, from April 2022 to October 2022, the total number of patients included being 237. Amblyopia was observed in 113 out of 160 (70.6%) cases of uniocular squint, while in alternating squint it was found to be 11 out of 77 (14.2%). Amblyopia in patients with esotropia was seen in 73.2% (107 out of 146), while 59.3% (54 out of 91) exotropia had associated amblyopia. Strabismus amblyopia leads to developmental arrest of vision in early critical years of life. Permanent visual loss can be avoided with comprehensive screening and detailed examination of strabismic patient.

本研究的目的是探讨斜视患者弱视的严重程度与斜视类型之间的关系。本研究为一项横断面研究，于 2022 年 4 月至 2022 年 10 月在巴基斯坦白沙瓦海亚特巴德医疗综合体眼科进行，共纳入 237 例患者。结果显示，在 160 例单眼斜视患者中，113 例（70.6%）存在弱视，77 例交替性斜视患者中，11 例（14.2%）存在弱视。在 146 例内斜视患者中，73.2%（107 例）存在弱视，91 例外斜视患者中，59.3%（54 例）存在弱视。斜视性弱视会导致儿童早期关键期视力发育停滞。通过对斜视患者进行全面筛查和详细检查，可以避免永久性视力丧失。
