Abstract

Liupao tea is one of the well-known Chinese tea brands and a famous local specialty in Wuzhou, Guangxi, China. However, the genetic background and phylogenetic relationship of the native resource plants of Liupao tea need study, especially at the genomic level. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of var. cultivar 'Liupao' (LP, Liupao tea population) and inferred its phylogenetic relationship to other tea plant variants or cultivars. The cp genome had a total length of 157,097 bp and the overall GC content was 37.3%. The cp genome contained one LSC region (86,641 bp) and one SSC region (18,276 bp), which were separated by two IR regions (26,090 bp, respectively). Moreover, the cp genomes were composed of 130 genes, including 86 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis showed that LP was closely related to var. cv. 'Lingyunbaihao'. This study will provide useful information for further investigating the genetic background, evolution, and breeding of LP as well as other tea cultivars and varieties.

六堡茶是中国著名的茶叶品牌之一,也是中国广西梧州著名的地方特产。然而,六堡茶原生资源植物的遗传背景和系统发育关系需要研究,尤其是在基因组水平上。在本研究中,我们报道了六堡茶品种‘六堡’(LP,六堡茶群体)的完整叶绿体(cp)基因组序列,并推断了其与其他茶树变种或品种的系统发育关系。该cp基因组全长157,097 bp,总体GC含量为37.3%。cp基因组包含一个LSC区域(86,641 bp)和一个SSC区域(18,276 bp),它们被两个IR区域(分别为26,090 bp)隔开。此外,cp基因组由130个基因组成,包括86个蛋白质编码基因、36个tRNA基因和8个rRNA基因。系统发育分析表明,LP与品种‘凌云白毫’密切相关。本研究将为进一步研究LP以及其他茶树品种的遗传背景、进化和育种提供有用信息。
