Abstract

Drimenol, a phytochemical with a distinct odor is found in edible aromatic plants, such as (known as kesum in Malaysia) and . Recently, drimenol has received increasing attention owing to its diverse biological activities. This review offers the first extensive overview of drimenol, covering its sources, bioactivities, and derivatives. Notably, drimenol possesses a wide spectrum of biological activities, including antifungal, antibacterial, anti-insect, antiparasitic, cytotoxic, anticancer, and antioxidant effects. Moreover, some mechanisms of its activities, such as its antifungal effects against human mycoses and anticancer activities, have been investigated. However, there are still several crucial issues in the research on drimenol, such as the lack of experimental understanding of its pharmacokinetics, bioavailability, and toxicity. By synthesizing current research findings, this review aims to present a holistic understanding of drimenol, paving the way for future studies and its potential utilization in diverse fields.

崖柏酚是一种存在于可食用芳香植物中的植物化学物质,具有独特气味,如(在马来西亚被称为kesum)和。最近,崖柏酚因其多样的生物活性而受到越来越多的关注。本综述首次对崖柏酚进行了广泛概述,涵盖其来源、生物活性和衍生物。值得注意的是,崖柏酚具有广泛的生物活性,包括抗真菌、抗菌、抗昆虫、抗寄生虫、细胞毒性、抗癌和抗氧化作用。此外,还对其一些活性机制进行了研究,如对人类真菌病的抗真菌作用和抗癌活性。然而,崖柏酚的研究仍存在几个关键问题,如对其药代动力学、生物利用度和毒性缺乏实验了解。通过综合当前的研究结果,本综述旨在全面了解崖柏酚,为未来的研究及其在不同领域的潜在应用铺平道路。
