Global research trends in the tumor microenvironment of hepatocellular carcinoma: insights based on bibliometric analysis.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to use visual mapping and bibliometric analysis to summarize valuable information on the tumor microenvironment (TME)-related research on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the past 20 years and to identify the research hotspots and trends in this field. METHODS: We screened all of the relevant literature on the TME of HCC in the Web of Science database from 2003 to 2023 and analysed the research hotspots and trends in this field via VOSviewer and CiteSpace. RESULTS: A total of 2,157 English studies were collected. According to the prediction, the number of papers that were published in the past three years will be approximately 1,394, accounting for 64.63%. China published the most papers (n=1,525) and had the highest total number of citations (n=32,253). published the most articles on the TME of HCC (n=75), whereas, was the journal with the highest total number of citations (n=4,104) and average number of citations (n=91). The four clusters containing keywords such as "cancer-associated fibroblasts", "hepatic stellate cells", "immune cells", "immunotherapy", "combination therapy", "landscape", "immune infiltration", and "heterogeneity" are currently hot research topics in this field. The keywords "cell death", "ferroptosis", "biomarkers", and "prognostic features" have emerged relatively recently, and these research directions are becoming increasingly popular. CONCLUSIONS: We identified four key areas of focus in the study of the TME in HCC: the main components and roles in the TME, immunotherapy, combination therapy, and the microenvironmental landscape. Moreover, the result of our study indicate that effect of ferroptosis on the TME in HCC may become a future research trend.

目的:本研究旨在利用可视化图谱和文献计量学分析,总结过去 20 年肝癌肿瘤微环境(TME)相关研究的有价值信息,并确定该领域的研究热点和趋势。

方法:我们从 Web of Science 数据库中筛选了 2003 年至 2023 年关于 HCC 的 TME 的所有相关文献,并通过 VOSviewer 和 CiteSpace 分析了该领域的研究热点和趋势。

结果:共收集到 2157 篇英文研究论文。根据预测,过去三年发表的论文数量约为 1394 篇,占 64.63%。中国发表的论文最多(n=1525),总引文数最高(n=32253)。发表关于 HCC 的 TME 论文最多(n=75),而被引频次最高(n=4104)和平均被引频次(n=91)的期刊是。目前该领域的热点研究课题包括含有“癌相关成纤维细胞”、“肝星状细胞”、“免疫细胞”、“免疫治疗”、“联合治疗”、“全景”、“免疫浸润”和“异质性”等关键词的四个聚类。“细胞死亡”、“铁死亡”、“生物标志物”和“预后特征”等关键词较新,这些研究方向越来越受欢迎。

结论:我们确定了 HCC 的 TME 研究的四个重点领域:TME 的主要组成部分和作用、免疫治疗、联合治疗和微环境景观。此外,我们的研究结果表明,铁死亡对 HCC 的 TME 的影响可能成为未来的研究趋势。
