An elevated serum creatine kinase (CK) level is common in patients being treated for acute asthma, but such an elevation should not lead to further investigation unless otherwise clinically warranted. Moreover, serum CK levels need not be routinely measured in young patients with an uncomplicated exacerbation of asthma.
