To explore the weight management experiences and needs of obese polycystic ovary syndrome patients of reproductive age in China.
Thirteen patients were recruited from a tertiary hospital in Sichuan province. Face-to-face structured interviews were conducted using a phenomenological approach, with data analyzed via Colaizzi seven-step method.
Key weight management methods identified included medication, diet, exercise, and habit correction. Coping attitudes varied, with some patients exhibiting positive or negative responses. Experiences revealed short-term adherence to dietary control but difficulty maintaining exercise routines. Patients expressed a need for support from medical staff and family, as well as interest in medications and traditional Chinese medicine to aid weight loss.
Insights into the weight management experiences and needs of obese PCOS patients can guide medical staff in addressing these challenges. Attention to patients' and families' emotional well-being during weight management is also crucial for effective intervention.
