This study aims to examine the anesthetic management strategies and perioperative considerations for a pregnant woman with occult spina bifida undergoing a cesarean section with spinal anesthesia.
We conducted a retrospective analysis of the clinical data from a 26-year-old first-time mother with occult spina bifida who had a cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia. Additionally, we reviewed the literature on how occult spina bifida affects spinal anesthesia and the related management strategies.
The anesthesia was effective, the surgery was successful, and both the mother and infant experienced positive outcomes without any neurological complications.
Occult spina bifida does not completely rule out the use of spinal anesthesia; however, careful preoperative assessment of spinal anatomy, refinement of puncture techniques, and thorough postoperative follow-up are crucial.
