Abstract

Models of positive youth development (PYD) provide sample cases of the empirical usefulness of dynamic, relational developmental systems (RDS)-based concepts. In agreement with Holt (2025), I note that studies of PYD promoted through sport are exemplary instances of mutually-influential (dynamic) individual⇔context coactions of foundational significance in RDS-based research. Holt also expands the conceptual links between RDS and the study of PYD through sport by explaining the importance of the RDS-based specificity principle; he explains that the key questions to be addressed in the study of PYD through sport are "what works, for whom, and in what circumstances?" Holt explains that such recognition necessarily leads to several areas of research of importance in future PYD through sport scholarship. I explain that these research areas should identify the specific idiographic, differential, and nomothetic dimensions of the dynamic individual⇔context relational processes involved in PYD through sport.
