Abstract

AIM AND BACKGROUND

Managing posterior edentulous areas in pediatric patients presents unique challenges due to continuous craniofacial growth. Transitional implants play a vital role in maintaining alveolar bone integrity and preventing malocclusion during this period. Despite their importance, achieving long-term stability in young patients remains a significant challenge. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), with its regenerative properties, has emerged as a promising adjunct to enhance the outcomes of transitional implants.

CASE DESCRIPTION

This case series describes two distinct cases involving the placement of posterior transitional implants. In each case, a 2.5 × 11 mm transitional implant was placed equicrestally with the aid of PRF. A metal prosthesis was used to restore function, and the patients underwent regular follow-ups every 3 months for a duration of 2 years. These follow-ups were conducted to assess implant stability and tissue health.

CONCLUSION

The use of PRF as an adjunctive therapy in the placement of transitional implants yielded favorable outcomes, demonstrating enhanced implant stability and improved tissue regeneration over the 2-year follow-up period. This approach shows significant potential in improving long-term success rates and reducing complications in pediatric implant dentistry.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Integrating PRF into transitional implant therapy represents a transformative approach to managing posterior edentulous areas in growing children. This approach ensures enhanced functional outcomes, preserves bone integrity, and improves patient satisfaction, thereby advancing pediatric implant dentistry practices to better meet the unique challenges of young patients.
