This viewpoint reports on the outcomes of the 2023 Australian interest holder meeting on the use of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in cancer care and discusses its findings in the context of the significant national investment into the collection of PRO data in Australia. The interest holders emphasised the importance for PRO data collection to be relevant to the care of individual patients and personalised to their needs and preferences to ensure direct impact on patients' care and outcomes. They also prioritised the coordination and integration of various PRO collection efforts to improve patient outcomes care quality.
