College students are in a stage of rapid physical and mental development and gradual improvement. The pressure and adversity they experience often lead to mental health problems. This study aimed to explore the relationship between regulatory emotional self-efficacy and adverse mental health outcomes and the mediating role of resilience among Chinese college students. We conducted an online survey involving 1177 college students (M = 21.43, SD = 1.65; 29.1% males) in China. Students were required to complete self-reported questionnaires regarding regulatory emotional self-efficacy, resilience, and adverse mental health outcomes. A structural equation model was used to test the mediating role of resilience in the association between self-efficacy in expressing positive emotions, managing negative emotions and adverse mental health outcomes. The results reveal that self-efficacy in expressing positive emotions was indirectly related to adverse mental health outcomes via resilience, and self-efficacy in managing negative emotions was not only directly related to adverse mental health outcomes but also indirectly related to adverse mental health outcomes through resilience. This study contributed to a better understanding of protective pathways for mental health among Chinese college students. Mental health practitioners and educators should focus on promoting regulatory emotional self-efficacy and resilience to improve Chinese college students' mental health.
大学生正处于身心快速发展和逐渐完善的阶段。他们所经历的压力和逆境往往会导致心理健康问题。本研究旨在探讨中国大学生调节情绪自我效能感与不良心理健康结果之间的关系以及心理韧性的中介作用。我们对中国1177名大学生(M = 21.43,SD = 1.65;29.1%为男性)进行了一项在线调查。学生们被要求完成关于调节情绪自我效能感、心理韧性和不良心理健康结果的自我报告问卷。采用结构方程模型来检验心理韧性在表达积极情绪、管理消极情绪的自我效能感与不良心理健康结果之间关联中的中介作用。结果显示,表达积极情绪的自我效能感通过心理韧性与不良心理健康结果间接相关,而管理消极情绪的自我效能感不仅与不良心理健康结果直接相关,还通过心理韧性与不良心理健康结果间接相关。本研究有助于更好地理解中国大学生心理健康的保护路径。心理健康从业者和教育工作者应注重提高调节情绪自我效能感和心理韧性,以改善中国大学生的心理健康。
