Abstract

450-453. An analysis was carried out of the hazard to ships' painters working at different concentrations of toluene and xylene vapours in air. The authors point out that it is possible to use a joint determination of hippuric and methylhippuric acids for the assessment of mixed exposure. The problem of benzene contamination of solvents is considered. During the investigations exposure to toluene and xylene was found to impair the excretion of uric acid.
