Chicken red cell nuclei treated with formalin appear to be specific and easy to handle nuclear antigens for antinuclear factor determination. They can be kept without cooling or freezing for at least 6 months, and probably considerably longer. As these nuclei can easily be obtained in great amounts it appears feasible to develop an international nuclear standard antigen for standardization in immunofluorescence. They might also be applied as a nuclear antigen in automated antinuclear factor determination.
