Experiments in mice inoculated intracerebrally with street rabies virus demonstrated a protective effect of an interferon inducer (double-stranded RNA of phage f2). A high degree of protection was observed after intracerebral inoculation of the inducer both 24 h before and 4 h after virus infection, with a considerable increase of the average life-span of the animals. Intramuscular and intraperitoneal inoculation of the inducer proved ineffective.
