120 sera from 60 newborn and their mothers were examined for cytomegalovirus complement fixating antibodies by microtiter complement fixation test. Antibody incidence were found 76 percent in the newborns and 90 percent in their mothers. The sera of 6 newborns and their mothers were negative for antibodies. But the other 8 newborns from mothers with 1:8 and 1:4 antibody titers were negative for antibodies. It is known that cytomegalovirus complement fixation antibodies pass through the placenta, but it is not possible to titrate the antibodies in the newborns of the mothers with low antibody titers.
