[Adverse effects of ketoprofen on the gastroduodenal mucosa. Comparison of the 2 oral forms].

Twenty healthy volunteers were entered into a double-blind study designed to compare the digestive tolerance, evaluated by fiberoptic gastroscopy, of Profenid capsules and Bi-Profenid tablets. Ten subjects were given 6 Profenid 50 mg capsules daily and the remaining ten were given 2 Bi-Profenid 150 mg tablets daily. Each drug was given for seven days. Fiberoptic gastroscopy was done before and after treatment with the use of a scoring system. A better score was obtained with the tablets as compared to the capsules. While the incidence of lesions found in the antrum and bulb did not differ between the two forms, lesions of the fundus were less frequent with Bi-Profenid 150 mg. This reflects a reduction in the contact effects of Bi-Profenid on the gastric mucosa, while the systemic effect of ketoprofen remains unchanged.
