Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH: EC 1.1.1.27) of skeletal muscle and heart was purified from young and old female albino rats. Properties of both types, muscle (M-LDH) and heart (H-LDH), were compared by using enzymes purified from skeletal muscle and hearts of young (22-weeks) and old (116-weeks) rats. M-LDH showed differences with respect to properties such as thermal stability and effects of pH, urea, and sodium sulfite. However, H-LDH did not show any significant alterations in enzyme properties.
