The toxic shock syndrome in a serious disease. It occurs predominantly in menstruating women using tampons. About 40 deaths are associated with toxic shock syndrome. In the majority of cases Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from cervix and vagina. Most of the cases were observed in United States.
