50 eyes were fitted with contact lenses of different materials. The tears were taken from different surgical departments specializing in the fitting of contact lenses. The tears were analyzed by electrophoresis. Albumin, and filtered and synthesized IgG were assayed in order to find out whether there is a modification in the permeability of the blood-tear barrier in individuals wearing contact lenses. In 40% (A2, B2 b + d) of the cases there were modifications in the permeability of the barrier and in 84% (group A2 + B2 b + c + d), the tears were found to be pathological.
