A 55-year-old black female was dialyzed with Cuprophan dialyzers twenty times without complications. Upon re-exposure eight months later she developed a severe anaphylactic reaction characterized by hypotension, shortness of breath and subsequent cardiopulmonary arrest. She did not have significant adverse reactions to Cordis-Dow-Hollow-Fiber dialyzers.
