[Modified variant of simultaneous discontinuation of psychotropic drugs (given in combination with diuretics) as a method of abrupt termination therapy for protracted episodes of schizophrenia].

A total of 100 schizophrenic patients with protracted attacks and refractory to psychopharmacotherapy were studied. In order to detect the efficacy of different treatment methods directed towards a break-off of protracted attacks, a comparative study of the intensity of psychopharmacotherapy, a simultaneous discontinuance of psychotropic drugs and their combinations with diuretics was accomplished. The latter method appeared to be the most effective with the least amount of side effects.
