From July 1965 to June 1976, 163 digits in 107 patients were replanted, and 145 digits survived-an 89 per cent success rate. Critical analyses were made of the causes of failures, complications, bone union, sensory recovery, secondary reconstructive procedures, and the final outcome. The majority of the patients were satisfied with their replanted digits, and no reamputation because of uselessness or causalgic pain of the replanted part has been necessary.
