A unique definition of the apparent volume of distribution at steady-state is presented which is consistent with the realistic concept of blood concentration differences within the circulatory system. A physiologically based pharmacokinetic model consisting of eliminating and non-eliminating organs is used to predict the effect of drug elimination upon the steady-state distribution volume.
