The role of bioengineering in orthopedics.

Orthopedic bioengineering is an example of professionals in distinct disciplines applying their skills to problems that require an interdisciplinary approach. Two current research projects, the development of replacement ligaments and tendons and of an absorbable fracture fixation device, illustrate this integrated approach.
