Rat liver cells in primary culture have been used to investigate the effects of ethanol and silybin on [2-3H]-glycerol incorporation into lipids. In these conditions, ethanol diminishes the incorporation of glycerol into lipids and modifies the labeling ratio: neutral lipid/phospholipid in favour of neutral lipid. 0.1 mM silybin can counteract this action of ethanol.
