The problem is dealt with why older persons have a positive attitude towards physical activities, but themselves are engaged in physical activities only in a low degree. The analysis of interview data supports the hypothesis that physical activities, in an advanced age, are determined by the assumption to control states of psychophysiological stress at all. Furthermore, it becomes obvious that physical activities depend on whether they are an appropriate instrument of control for older persons.
