This paper gives an account of Cuba's experiences with research work and the organization of research. The author explains the principles that govern research and the county's policies in this field. The national institution particularly responsible for health research, as well as teaching and the scientific and technical service considers that the subjects on which research is to be done include the following problems: primary health care, particularly participation of the people in the dynamics of the services, evaluation of health units and programs, productivity studies on the services, introduction of new management methods and assessments of the level of health of the population.
