Transient deficiency of antihemophilic factor (AHF) procoagulant and AHF-like antigen during administration of tetracycline.

A 35-year old woman showed a transient reduction in level of both moieties of antihemophilic factor (AHF; factor VIII, AHG), following the accidental administration of oral tetracycline. This effect could be reproduced under controlled conditions. No anti-AHF antibodies nor antibodies against tetracycline could be demonstrated. It is suspected that the antibiotic temporarily suppressed the biosynthesis of the AHF procoagulant and AHF-like antigen.
