Analysis of possible toxins in hepatic coma including the removal of mercaptan by albumin-collodion charcoal.

Albumin-collodion coated activated charcoal was found to effectively remove mercaptan in aqueous solution or in "plasma" solution. An initial clearance of 150 ml/min at a flow rate of 200 ml/min could be obtained. The roles of middle molecules, loosely protein-blood molecules, phenols, mercaptan and other molecules were discussed.
