Abstract

Teflon sling repair of rectal prolapse appeals to us because it is relatively safe in patients who are often in an older age and at high risk. The Thiersch operation has been employed in a small number of patients with limited life expectancy. In our experience, major complications of the operation described by Ripstein have been late stricturing or late recurrent prolapse, and these have been dealt with satisfactorily by either anterior resection or replacement of the sling.
